Bananas.

Mara stood still at the edge of the white field, her breath forming small clouds in the thin air. She closed her eyes for a moment, feeling the warmth of her stretched banana scarf envelop her in a reassuring embrace. The fibers felt almost silky soft against her skin, despite their rubbery appearance. The length of the scarf dragged on the snow, but Mara didn’t care. She smiled as she picked up one end and draped it gracefully around her shoulders, keeping her balance and allowing her to move forward without accidentally tripping over her own protection.

She enjoyed the contrast between the freezing cold around her and the light summer clothes she wore: a simple floral dress and her favorite sandals. The air felt sharp and crisp against her bare arms, but the contrast was just what she needed. The secret was in the way she tied the scarf. She had wrapped the ends around her waist and made a playful bow that both accentuated her waist and elevated the banana scarf to an accessory of practical elegance.

The scent of bananas was subtle—not overpowering, but just enough to remind her of distant summer days. She slipped her hand into a loop of the scarf she had creatively tied into a kind of sling bag. Her notebook, a few dried rose petals, and a small bottle of water were effortlessly tucked inside. The long strands of the scarf were no longer just a piece of clothing; they had become a part of her, an extension of her own emotions.

Mara ran her fingers along the button, thinking of how she had pinned flower brooches to the fabric that morning to hide the brown spots that sometimes formed. The colors gave her an almost ethereal look against the white landscape. She felt like a work of art, a moving painting that ignored the rules of the season.

As she walked, she felt the softness of the shawl against her neck and shoulders. The warmth was constant and intense, as if she were carrying a piece of the sun with her. Each step in the snow was light and free—as free as only someone can be who brings their own summer into a cold world. She could dance, she thought, for even the cold earth had no hold on her feet, so light and free did she feel.
