Handelingen.

Het heel langzaam indrukken van een deurbel en een eend die in het park een stuk nat brood naar binnen werkt, lijken volkomen losstaande handelingen. Toch delen ze dezelfde stille logica: beide zijn kleine rituelen van gedoseerde druk, beheersing en lichte weerstand. De vinger nadert de bel niet haastig, maar met bijna plechtige voorzichtigheid, alsof zelfs het aankondigen van je aanwezigheid met tact moet gebeuren. De eend behandelt het slappe brood op vergelijkbare wijze: niet gulzig, maar met kleine herpositioneringen, minieme correcties en hardnekkige precisie. In beide scènes ontstaat spanning uit iets dat eigenlijk eenvoudig zou moeten zijn, maar zich toch niet volledig gewonnen geeft. De bel biedt net genoeg weerstand om de handeling ceremonieel te maken, het brood net genoeg om van eten een technisch vraagstuk te maken. Juist daardoor krijgen beide momenten iets komisch en ontroerends. Samen vormen ze een alledaags miniatuurdrama waarin terughoudendheid, timing en kleine volharding verrassend elegant samenvallen.

Een sneeuwpop lijkt op het eerste gezicht slechts een vrolijk winterfiguur dat kinderen en volwassenen even laat glimlachen, maar wie iets dieper kijkt, ontdekt dat hij verrassend veel gemeen heeft met een abonnement op een ochtendkrant. Het gaat niet alleen om de symboliek van nieuwheid of frisheid, maar om een reeks subtiele overeenkomsten die iets zeggen over ritme, aandacht en het plezier van herhaling. Daarom vormt de sneeuwpop een onverwacht rijke metafoor voor het dagelijks ontvangen van nieuws.

Artificial grass.

On the highway, where normally only the sound of speeding cars and the monotonous rhythm of tires on asphalt predominate, lies, almost unnoticed, a rectangular piece of artificial grass, so green that it almost seems a mockery of the barren verges that surround it. The cars that rush past, some with a slight slowing in their speed as if their drivers are momentarily hesitating, drive calmly and without much fuss around it, as if this artificial island is nothing more than an innocent interruption in the flowing asphalt of their journey. No honking, no brakes, just a silent acceptance that here, in the middle of the highway, the inexplicable can happen.
