Giggle.

When we think about the origins of intelligent life, scientists often focus on language, tool use, or social cooperation as the first signs of cognitive development. But what if the true beginning of intelligence wasn’t an action, but a sound? A sound somewhere between instinct and consciousness? A giggle—a spontaneous, uncontrolled expression of wonder, excitement, and connection.

Three.

The binary number system, consisting of only ones and zeros, forms the backbone of the digital world we live in. A seemingly simple system in which everything, absolutely everything, is reduced to two symbols: on and off, yes and no, 1 and 0. It sounds clear. But as soon as one tries to count, a strange paradox arises. After all, it seems simple to go from zero to three, but that is where the confusion begins.

Ceiling.

A tangerine, casually placed next to the fruit bowl, seems in its simplicity a monument to chance, a microcosm of sugar, acids and cellulose, perfectly sealed by a porous but protective shell that preserves the chemical harmony within. It is an expression of natural efficiency and perfection, and at the same time a visual statement, a quiet force in its colour and shape that attracts our attention through the dissonance of its placement next to the organised chaos of the fruit bowl. This apparent deviation in the logic of the table arrangement, however, raises the question: is the distance a meaningful void, a limit of arbitrariness, or merely a shadow of human carelessness? In contrast, standing on tiptoes to touch the ceiling is an action that not only activates the tension in the muscles of the legs, but is also an attempt to reach for what seems just out of reach, a symbolic gesture of aspiration and limitation. From a chemical point of view, we can interpret this as a cascade of calcium ions and the electrical impulses that make muscle contraction possible, a process that is elegant and mundane at the same time, but also tempered by gravity that brings us back to the ground.

Technical Problem.

There are moments, deeply rooted in the twists and turns of social interaction, when the air seems to grow heavier and words suffocate, when glances linger a fraction too long or dart away too quickly, when your heart clings to the edge of your ribcage and your breath moves out of sync like an untrained dancer. It’s the kind of situation where no logic can save you, where every step forward feels like walking deeper into a swamp, and yet here, there lurks an unexpected, almost poetic way out: the raising of a technical problem. It’s not because there’s a blinking screen, a vibrating phone, a mic glitching—it’s precisely because there’s nothing technological that makes this escape so sublime. Technology, invisible and omnipresent in our daily lives, offers us a language, an excuse, an intangible shield to hide behind in the labyrinth of uncomfortable human connections.

Success.

Morning brings with it a sense of new possibilities. There is something symbolic about the moment when the sun rises and daylight slowly fills the streets: a fresh start, a blank slate. While many people rush to work, study or other activities in these early hours, it also offers an opportunity for a particularly friendly gesture: not just a greeting, but a sincere wish for success. In a society where anonymity is often the norm, paying attention to strangers is not something that comes naturally to many people. Most mornings are monotonous; a standard "Good morning" or even a brief nod usually suffices. But what if we could turn this standard greeting into a spontaneous, warm wish for success? A "Good luck today!" instead of the usual "Good morning" can have much more impact than we might think at first glance

Silence.

Silence in communication is a powerful force that can convey far more meaning than words can. But there is a deeper layer of silence that we often overlook: the silence of a night. Because sometimes a single moment of silence is not enough to process the full impact of a conversation. Silence needs to be allowed to mature, like a seed slowly taking root in the dark. Imagine a conversation stopping—not for a few seconds, not for a minute, but for a night. Somewhere in those long, silent hours, something magical happens. Your mind starts to race, the thoughts that were previously stuck in the tangle of words start to unravel. In the dark, with the only company being the rustle of the night, you come to insights that were impossible to reach during the day. That one word that was said, that comment that passed you by, suddenly starts to resonate. Silence of this length allows you to take the time to really think, rather than responding reflexively.

Plumber.

When you hear the word "poffertjes" you probably immediately think of those small, airy treats that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You might even be imagining the sweet smell of melted butter and powdered sugar. But imagine that instead of a poffertjes chef, a plumber is standing behind the baking sheet. Yes, you read that right! A plumber who bakes the most delicious poffertjes for you with precision and craftsmanship. Sounds bizarre, right? However, there is more to this unusual idea than you might think. A plumber is surprisingly good at working in the kitchen and offers unique benefits that you would never have expected. Why would you choose a plumber to lead your poffertjes party instead of a professional chef? Here are the sensational reasons why hiring a plumber can be the best choice to take your poffertjes to the next level!

Regulation.

In the search for innovative ways to save our planet, there is increasing interest in regulating gravity itself. It may sound futuristic, but regulating gravity could be the solution to some of the biggest environmental problems of our time. By controlling gravity at specific times and locations, it would not only be possible to save natural resources, but also drastically reduce the global energy demand.

Aligned.

The essay is a hybrid form of writing, often balancing between rational analysis and personal reflection. What is intriguing about the essay is that the way it is written—literally, how the text is positioned on the page—can affect its content and meaning. An essay that is right-aligned reads differently than an essay that is left-aligned. This is not just a typographical choice; it has profound implications for the way a text is experienced and interpreted. Here are three reasons why right-aligning produces a different piece than left-aligning.
