The Dutch alphabet consists of 26 letters, five of which are vowels: a, e, i, o and u. Every vowel has its own role and contribution in the Dutch language, but not all vowels are used equally often. Recent research shows that the letter "u" is the least used vowel in the Dutch language. This begs the question: is it possible and desirable to delete the letter "u"? Frequency of use. Research into the frequency of vowel use shows that the letter "e" is by far the most common vowel in Dutch. The "u", on the other hand, is much less common. This can be attributed to the specific sounds this letter represents, which require fewer words to convey meaning. Words such as bs, stk and lcht sod without the "u" change significantly, but these types of words are less numerous compared to words containing other vowels.
