The use of inflatables, or inflatable objects, in road safety is an innovative approach that offers advantages for vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists. The term "inflatables" often conjures up associations with recreational objects, but this technology is increasingly being used to provide safe, temporary solutions in traffic. Inflatable zebra crossings, cycle lanes and street lighting can contribute to a safer road network and positively influence the behaviour of road users. This essay discusses the advantages of using these inflatables and how they can contribute to better road safety.
