On the windowsill.

A small cactus on the windowsill could not, at first glance, be further removed from a drill/driver at the local hardware store. Yet, when you look at it from another angle, there is a world of connections that almost make their paths cross.

Take that little cactus. It stands there, faithfully catching the sun, every ray a source of life. Despite its prickly appearance, it exudes a certain calm. It doesn’t ask for much—a little water now and then, and a place in the light. But why do we choose a cactus anyway? Maybe it’s because it’s a tough plant, just as we sometimes have to be tough in life. Maybe it symbolizes our desire to make things grow, even in the most difficult circumstances.

Now, move on to the hardware store. The place where everyone goes to make, fix, or build things. Here you’ll find the drill/driver—a powerful tool designed to drill holes and drive screws securely. It may seem purely functional at first glance, but consider the philosophy behind it. A drill/driver symbolizes control and power over matter. It’s a device that allows us to shape our environment. Like the cactus, it’s a symbol of perseverance: with the right tool, you can do almost anything.

How do these two worlds come together? They seem so different, but when you put them together, you see parallels. Both the cactus and the drill represent steadfastness. One does so in the silence of nature, the other in the noise of a workshop. Both are, in their own way, modest. The cactus stands there small but fearless, while the drill waits in the toolbox until it can do its job.

And then, look at the applications. Imagine you want to hang a shelf on the wall, perhaps to display your collection of mini cacti. What do you need? A drill. After all, the cactus longs for a nice place, and without the right tools you won’t get far. So they almost come together, the tool and the plant, as if the universe had ordered it. But it’s at that moment that you see the irony: the cactus is a symbol of survival without too much external help, while the drill is all about precision and intervention.

And so they just miss each other. The cactus doesn't need a drill to grow, and the drill will never bloom in the sun.
