Manifesto against the use of mirages as signage

We, the signatories of this manifesto, come together to speak out against a growing trend: the use of mirages as signage. While these optical illusions are intriguing and magical, and undeniably capture the attention of adventurers and dreamers, we advocate preserving their mystery and natural beauty.

1. Protection of Natural Wonders

Fata morganas are rare natural phenomena that have the power to amaze us and stimulate our imagination. By reducing them to everyday signposts, we detract from their intrinsic value and rarity.

2. Navigation reliability

Fata morganas are illusions by definition; they are elusive, changeable and unreliable. Using it as a guide or direction indicator can lead to confusion and even dangerous situations. In a world that is increasingly dependent on accurate and reliable data, this is an irresponsible choice.

3. Cultural and Historical Respect

Many cultures have legends and stories surrounding mirages. These stories lose their power and meaning when these natural phenomena are transformed into everyday objects. It is important that we show respect for these cultural narratives.

4. Sustainability of Tourism

The unique appeal of mirages can be a powerful tool for sustainable tourism. By commercializing and banalizing them, we risk overexploitation that could diminish the special experiences offered by these phenomena.

Conclusion

We call for a reconsideration of the use of mirages as signage. Let us preserve these wonders of nature for future generations, free from the burdens of commercialization and everyday use. Respect the mirage: as a symbol of natural mystery and wonder, not as a tool for man.

We ask everyone who reads this manifesto to join us in this cause and work together to protect our natural wonders.
