Immortality.

People have tried to understand the concepts of life, death and immortality since ancient times. Different philosophical and spiritual schools of thought approach this topic in unique ways, each with their own interpretations and meanings. A particularly interesting view states that man never actually experiences death. If we follow this line of thinking, we might conclude that from our personal perspective, we as individuals are immortal. This article will explore this statement further.

Life: A Journey to Death?

Traditionally, life is often described as a journey toward death. It is an inevitable end that we will all reach, but never experience. This is because once we die, we are not aware of this state of being. We do not experience death; we simply stop experiencing life. In this sense, one could argue that our conscious life ends at death, but never actually experiences death.

Immortality in Perception

From this perspective, there is an interesting paradox that arises: if we never experience death, is our life in fact immortal? The answer depends on how we define immortality. Traditionally, immortality is seen as the eternal continuation of life. However, if we define immortality as the absence of experiencing death, then we could argue that life, from our personal perspective, is indeed immortal.

This concept goes beyond a mere semantic game. It sheds light on the unique phenomenon of human consciousness and self-perception. The ability to see ourselves as separate entities with a beginning and an end is what makes us human. But as this concept suggests, our own perspective on these issues can significantly influence our perception of reality.

Immortality and Consciousness

The theory of perceptual immortality is closely related to the concept of consciousness. Consciousness stops at death, but because we are unaware of this fact, from our perspective we are never truly dead. We are only aware of life, and therefore we can theoretically say that our life is eternal, because our perception of it never ends.

It is important to note that this concept does not claim that physical life is eternal, but rather that our perception of life is infinite because we never experience death. This is a subtle but crucial distinction.

Conclusion

The idea that life is immortal because we never experience death is both fascinating and challenging. It underlines the power and influence of perception on our understanding of reality and existence. Although we cannot physically continue life forever, this philosophy suggests that from our own perspective, we never truly experience death. And so our experience of life, through the lens of our consciousness, becomes, in a sense, immortal.
