heeft op een zandkorrel te bijten, terwijl er in werkelijkheid geen zichtbaar zand aanwezig is, een ervaring die zich typisch manifesteert tijdens het consumeren van voedsel dat normaal gesproken als volkomen zuiver en vrij van externe verontreinigingen wordt beschouwd, zoals een sappige appel of een zacht stuk brood, waardoor er een plotselinge, schurende sensatie tussen de tanden optreedt, die niet alleen het onaangename gevoel van het fysieke bijten op zand oproept, maar tevens gepaard kan gaan met het karakteristieke, haast hoorbare knarsen dat men normaliter alleen zou verwachten bij de
